PSA-3000 & PSE Multi-Port Suite

The PSA-3000 supports an optional feature for Multi-Port system testing and analysis of PSE's.   This type of testing is primarily useful for development and analysis of PSE system-wide behaviors such as the distribution of power to one or more Powered Devices.   It can also be an efficient means for QA of higher (24 and up) port-count PSE's.

At the heart of Multi-Port system testing is the ability to present user-defined Powered Devices on many or all PSE ports simultaneously.  Using Live PD Emulation, every PSE port can experience any user-defined PD including Type-2 (Class 4) PD's with robust 802.3at LLDP emulation.   Live PD Emulation means a user-defined PD is always present regardless of the state of the PSE port.  PSE ports may administratively remove power, restore power, negotiate power, and re-nogotiate power as they choose.  Live PD Emulation may also be configured to emulate a number of proprietary 4-pair PSE's including PoH and UPoE formats.

The 2nd generation PSE Multi-Port Test Suite is a group of 9 fully automated tests that assess sytem-wide behaviors only observable when many 802.at compliant PD's are powered by a PSE.   The PSE Multi-Port Test Suite will automatically acquire and distill information regarding key behaviors of PSE including class-based power administration, multi-port LLDP allocations, power-up and LLDP grant timing, static power capacity, transient reserve power capacity, power-down timing, power-per-port uniformity and uncertainty, and power stress test analyses.

With the Multi-Port Suite, system testers can:

  • Configure up to 192 ports of simultaneous Live PD Emulation with per-port Live Status monitoring

  • Configure Live PD Emulation of Type-1 (Class 0-3) and Type-2 (Class 4), including LLDP-Capable Powered Devices and 4-Pair (proprietary) High Power Devices including PoH* and UPoE*.

  • Perform fully automated system testing and analysis on up to 192 Ports of Type-1 and/or Type-2 PSE's including power management decisions, static and transient power capacity, multi-port startup / shutdown / overload timing analysis, and multi-port power stressing.

  • Generate colorful and informative spreadsheet reports with easy-to-recognize performance notations and associated graphics.

LLDP Emulation & Analysis for PSA-3000 & PSL-3000

LLDP Emulation involves modeling numerous characteristics of a PD as it uses LLDP to request and agree upon power allocations from a PSE.   Normally, such transactions are performed immediately after powering the PD, though they may be ongoing with subsequent power adjustments induced by either the PD or the PSE.   Characteristics that may be modeled are PD Power Request, PSE Power Allocation (echo), periodicity of packet transmission, timing of responses to value changes, LLDP time-to-live, and various TLV fields that communicate device status and information.

LLDP Analysis involves capturing and analyzing bi-directional PoE-specific LLDP packets and associated packet timing during PD power-ups and during ongoing (post power-up) power adjustments.

PSA-3048 RackPack PSA

The PSA-3048 RackPack PSA is offers all of the features and capabilities of the PSA-3000, but at a lower per-port cost.  For customers that routinely test 48 port PSE's, the PSA-3048 is a more cost effective way to gain access to the powerful features of the PSA-3000 PowerSync® Analyzer.
